..Hello my name is John, I am studying a Btec National diploma in Art and Design. I really enjoy my course and all the different types of artwork it covers, especially the design side of my project work. I feel that designing has become a massive part of my life in the last few years, and alot of my time is dedicated into creating and designing personal projects. In the near future I hope to be using my talent to the best of its ability, travelling the globe and desingning my own vast creations of the outside world on a much bigger scale. I have a wide vareity of work that I have covered, completed and still have yet to discover during my time at college, among the images you will see are some of my most favoured works. One of the strongest parts of my work is my 3D models, the modles are very time consuming but the final outcome has a maximum effect on detail and aesthetics. By using reclaimed and new resources. I can make my modles as realistic as possible. Several of my model designs are inspired by the architect Santiago Calatrava, and by using this inspiration I can create a huge contrast between ultra modern and natural. Another strong point in my work is my free hand sketches and drawings which is perfect for generating sketchbooks and devlopment sheets. My passion for drawing helps me to express my thoughts and ideas, which allows me to produce more fluent life studies and digitally enhanced drawings. Besides sketches and drawings I have also developed techniques in textiles, montages and collages which I have covered in my first year of college. By learning these techniques it has allowed me to progress into my second year with a more diverse look towards layering and texturising numerous amounts of natural forms and structures.

Personal bridge design - view 1
For this 3D model I used a various range of materials, for the landscape surrounding I used mainly natural resources for example sandstone which is perfect for replicating mountains and rocky terrains. For the vegetation I used chopped ferns and for the sandy looking areas also for layering the sandstone, I used a dark tile cement which dried alot lighter.

Personal bridge design - view 2
For the bridge, I used foam board which is a great material for shaping and curving, I used this material mainy on the bridge uprights and supports. I painted the the foam board in a dark grey colour to give the impression of steel work. Another material I used is light grey modeling wire, which is also perfect for shaping which was used as part of the metal work running along the edge of the bridge, this supported the suspention made from strands of cotton. A rough estimation of the size of the model is about one meter by one and a half.

Perspective watercolour
Here I have drawn a vareity of images, using different points of perspective. For effect, i coloured some of the images in water colour pencils, for some I left plain to create a contrast between black and white and bright vivid colours. For the top left images I used watercolours to be able to blend and streak colours to upshot the perspective.

3D -Flight Model                                                            For my flight model I used materials such a modling foam to get smooth flowing shapes, I also used acetate to create tubular connecting tunnels which worked great with the white coloured structures. For the," spiney" outer connecting pieces I used modeling wire and and wooden skewers sprayed white as an external feature of the flight inspired building. The building design has a rough size of about half a meter by half a meter.

3D - Flight Model - View 2

Flight Project - SketchUp
Here I created a digital version of my flight project. using sketchup i was able to see my design in a more perspective point of view. I used a wide range of tools for this piece from the rotate tool to change the angle of the wave like structures. I also used the push pull tool to drag 2D shapes into a various 3D shape.

Flight Inspired Model - 2

Flight Inspired Model - 3
This design is different to the above, I used modeling foam and acetate just like the actual final piece, i wanted to see what the materials wouls be like to work with before i used them for the last time on this particular project. This model is roughly about thirty centimeters by thirty centimeters and about fifteen centimeters in height.

Sketch Studies
For these sieries of sketches I used pencil and oli pastel for the studies, for the backgrounds I used grey and brown sugar paper layered on top of one another. I especially like the bottom righ study as the brackground of the study was created using several layers of coffe for contrast.

Collages and Textiles
For this piece I melted plastic and paper together for a base, I then sewn into them using different coloured cottons replicating underwater coral life, this technique is perect for sketchbook worK. I then mounted the pieces onto an a2 sheet for presentation.

Natural Form Structure
Here iIcreated a natural form stucture also using reclaimed sources from pond life material such as knotweed and willow shoots to create an interlocking tower of nature. The structure is about one and a half meters high from the ground.

Life Drawings
Using the technique, "inky stick" I was able to create very flowing and fluent life drawings. I used rich colours such as indego blue and fluorescent pink to create an effective contrast between the two. I used a2 paper to get a real pespective of the human body.
Digital Montage
For this digital montage I used Adobe illustrator, I used tools such as the lasso tool to outline bold shadows. I also used a number of layers to build up the image to be able to work easier. My inspiration came from the artist Jason Brooks.

Photoshop Advanced Drawing
Here is an image that I have drawn free hand, I then used photoshop tp give the drawing vivd colour and to give the impression of natural colours of an eagle. I used different tools such as the cloning tool to fade blemishes, I also used the paint tool to give the image a blended and bold outcome.
